"the Tripper" and "Dread"

This weekend I watched two horror movies both were well made with good actors and actresses, good cinematography, story, and were fairly entertaining. Let's start with "the Tripper". It was a very entertaining movie with gory action and political statements all rolled into one. (Spoilers) The story is about a boy whose father couldn't save his dying wife because of a group of hippies trying to save a forest. The hippies succeed and the man becomes upset at a hippie in the group, attacks him and the hippie defends himself by hitting him upside the head with a rock making him fall and become quite angry. He pulls a gun and threatens the group of hippies with death, the police show up and place him under arrest. The man's son had watched all this occur and became very distraught and taught the hippie how not to use a chainsaw. Unfortunately, the hippie didn't learn the lesson well and died. The police arrest the boy and put him in a mental institution. Years later we meet our annoying drug soaked new age hippies who go to a free love festival hosted by the most crooked and annoying man in show business (we never learned him name). There are two characters that make this movie worth it, Thomas Jane (the original Punisher) and the serial killer (we'll get to him). They meet a side plot with rednecks just before they get to the festival. When they get there the movie includes nudist hippies and kill off the male nudist within five minutes of our baked heroes arriving by way of snare trap in a funny yet "What the...?" sort of manner. They meet an awesome old hippie with a fur coat and make fun of him all the while he is calm and actually gives them good advice but they don't care. Soon after our heroes leave we meet our killer, a man dressed in a nice suit wearing a Ronald Regan mask, decapitates him for no reason. Yes this movie is about a man dressed as Ronald Regan killing hippies. Already it's awesome! I won't spoil the ending but the epic meter now has a new notch.
I give this movie a 8 out of 10. Great film very entertaining, lots to make fun of.

The other movie I watched, "Dread", however was... depressing. It started out great, with a collegiate level study on fear with our main characters, a normal guy who just so happens to look like a guy off of Criminal Minds (he isn't) and acts like a stick most of the time but can be very compelling, a raging sadist who just so happens to be an average artist as well as a pickup artist? Who knew... The movie ends tragically in the most sadistic, twisted, maniacal, cruel way possible. The movie practically turns around after making you like it after making you trust it and like it's characters it goes crazy and bite you were it hurts.
I give this sick film a 7.5 out of 10. Thanks for the ride but you were never scary and for the last half you didn't even give me anything to make fun of.
